Learn How to Disco!
The Hustle, also known as the “Disco”, became extremely popular in the 1970’s thanks to the role played by John Travolta in the hit movie “Saturday Night Fever” (1977). At that time, it was mostly freestyle dancing. Today, most refer to Hustle as a unique partner dance. Popular Hustle / Disco music of the 70’s would include, “Stayin’ Alive” and “Saturday Night Fever”. As the Hustle continues to evolve, we also dance it to Pop / Top 40 music. The Hustle is unique rhythmically because of its syncopated timing.
Characteristics
The Hustle is a fast, yet smooth, dance style with a rotational pattern. There is a basic tapping or rocking action for both partners. The Hustle is filled with turns and spins, with the classic Disco arms. Hustle is counted as 1-2-3, or as & 1-2-3 for syncopated patterns.
